‘There was just no room, no cover, no concealment’

“Every time someone asked me about the awards or I had to put them on, all I thought about is that day and everything that had happened,” Ambriz said. “So at first it was a burden I had to carry.”

The Global War On Terrorism History Project

“The Global War On Terrorism History Project is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit traveling display with the express purpose of educating the public about American Service Members' experiences down range. We do this through the display of uniforms, helmets, signs and other items used by service members. Almost everything we display has the history of the Veteran along with the item. Some of our stories are heartbreaking, while others are hilarious, the key being that these are all stories that we have been lucky enough to save. The display started in 2013, slowly evolving as we learn from each event we attend. Our primary focus is to help people connect with these stories from a long running war, far from our shores.”

Military Times

The Hall of Valor is the world’s largest public database of American military award citations, collected by Doug Sterner, a Vietnam veteran and Military Times contributing editor. All recipients in the database are verified by source material such as official award citations, narratives and/or synopses from individuals or records from the National Archives. The Hall of Valor Project is ongoing. It is a monumental effort to identify the half-million men and women who received the highest U.S. military awards, in addition to the millions of others who received citations for their service to the United States of America.

DOD Reads

Congrats on your new book Ghosts of the Valley. Tell me a little bit about it?

“My book is about my experiences in Afghanistan told through my eyes.  It’s a 10 chapter book with the first nine dedicated to sharing the stories of brave soldiers.  Those chapters are not meant to be a biography but set the tone about who I am and where I came from and how it landed me in the valley in Afghanistan.  I try to aim the majority of my vision towards actions I saw others take as well as leadership decisions that would soon be building blocks for myself as I would grow up.  Two of the biggest firefights are told in separate chapters about how I earned my two Bronze Stars with valor and a Purple Heart.  Chapter 10 is a resource chapter for any veteran who picks up my book.  The chapter has information, phone numbers, and resources to point them in the right direction if they are in need.”
